The Procurement AI Maturity Diagnostic
A short self-assessment for senior procurement leaders to understand where to focus next
AI adoption in procurement has accelerated rapidly. Teams are experimenting with tools, pilots are running across categories and processes, and individual productivity gains are increasingly common.
Yet despite this activity, many procurement leaders still struggle to answer a couple of simple questions:
Are we building a scalable AI capability or just experimenting at the edges?
Are we taking the right steps to deliver value for our organisation?
This self-assessment provides a practical sense check. It is designed to help senior procurement leaders:
- Take an honest view of how current AI efforts translate into capability
- Identify the most important gaps, risks, and constraints
- Anchor constructive discussions with IT, Legal, Finance, and vendors
- Understand what “good” looks like at their current stage, and what to prioritise next
Rather than ranking organisations as “good” or “bad,” this tool helps clarify where to focus effort over the next 12–24 months to unlock sustainable, long-term value.
How to Use This Assessment
- Completion time: 5–10 minutes
- Answers should be based on current reality, not aspiration
- There are no “right” answers; only useful ones
You will assess your organisation across five dimensions that consistently differentiate procurement teams that scale AI value effectively.
The Five Dimensions of Procurement AI Readiness
For each statement, score your organisation on a scale of 1 to 5:
- 1 = Not at all true
- 2 = Slightly true
- 3 = Partially true
- 4 = Mostly true
- 5 = Fully true
