Procurement leaders have the chance to be the architects of a new, technology-driven procurement endgame that turns the function into a true, strategic partner to the business. But technology alone is not enough to deliver this transformation. It also requires a step change in the entire operating model and, in turn, the right talent with the right skills to enable and deliver it. Its success ultimately depends upon the human factor.

This year’s research will explore how a more tech-savvy, collaborative and strategically-minded future procurement workforce will ultimately require a reshape of organisational design, and serve as much as a driving force of transformational change to the procurement function, as technology itself.
As part of this research, we have interviewed 500 respondents, representing senior procurement professionals, such as CPO/Head of Procurement/Procurement Director level, across different sectors and split evenly across the UK, US, Germany, the Nordics and Middle East.

Tim is the Director of Commercial and Procurement at Thames Water with accountability for all strategic sourcing, purchase to pay, contract management, commercial assurance and most recently, group property. He is heavily involved in establishing a long-term business strategy for supply chain and cost transformation, as well as identifying new approaches to creating value from existing assets.
Patrick is CPO at Sainsbury’s with responsibility for all of the group's procurement as well as leading its cost base transformation. More recently he has added the group's extensive property portfolio for Sainsburys and Argos to his responsibilities as group property and procurement director. His role is to lead a programme of procurement-led business change across the group. He has previously worked for Walgreens Boots Alliance, Howden Joinery Supply, MFI Asia and Nissan.
Lucy Harding is a Partner and Global Head of the Procurement & Supply Chain Practice at Odgers Berndtson. Lucy has significant experience operating in the procurement and supply chain search environment following 10 years operating in a leading boutique firm. She is an advisory Board Member with the Supply Chain Faculty at Cranfield University and a member of the Appointments Committee for the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
Karen works at the City of London Corporation as a Commercial Contract Manager. She started four years ago as a Category Manager in the Corporate Services Team. Armed with a range of experience in the procurement lifecycle, her next focus is to review and deliver commercial opportunities in these times of innovation. Previous to this role, Karen worked in procurement strategy and eProcurement. In 2018, Karen was the winner of the CIPS Young professional award.
Howard joined Essar Oil UK in 2017 as Business Optimisation and Improvement Consultant, becoming Chief People Officer the following year. Previously he worked as Group HR Director at Peel Ports Group; as Head of People and Culture (UK and Ireland) at Danish wind turbine company, Vestas; as Regional HR Manager at Babcock International and he spent 11 years as HR Manager at transportation and logistics company, TDG, now known as XPO.
Juliet is Chief Procurement Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer at Babcock International Group with additional responsibility for property and energy. Juliet worked in venture capital and management consulting roles before joining procurement. She worked as Managing Director at Bear Stearns investment bank in New York building the procurement function from greenfield. In 2009 Juliet moved to Sky as Head of Group Procurement and subsequently joined Babcock in 2016.
