When Procurement Specialist Efficio Consulting went into a European chemicals company that had recently been acquired by a private equity firm, it found a typical scenario. The company had long-established contracts with suppliers, even though there were better deals around which could save the business huge sums.
"Their procurement practices were not leading-edge." says Efficio co-founder Juraj Priecel. "There was no co-ordination between the six European countries it operated in, let alone globally. It was buying a lot of technical supplies, but also indirect supplies, such as energy, but because the buying was not joined up, the company wasn't able to analyse where it was spending money and therefore was unable to bargin with suppliers.".....
